Campus Awareness Coast2Coast's Mission Statement
We strive to raise awareness about campus violence. Recent tragedies have brought the vast number of those affected by campus violence to the forefront. We aspire to bring people together and show our support for victims, families, and the communities that have experienced campus violence directly and indirectly.
Fundraising Efforts
Campus Awareness Coast2Coast would like to thank everyone who supported our inaugural awareness event. With the help of family, friends and the community, the events held across the country on April 16, 2008, were a huge success! Each participating restaurant not only raised money for the event, but also served as an arena for many to gather, share stories, and show support. At the same time, we would like to thank the Alaskan Brewing Co. for the specials they offered in exchange for personal donations at the Pacific Beach Shore Club event location. While many showed up aware of the event and our cause, there were others who did not know an event was taking place that day. It was amazing to see those people become interested, involved and eager to learn more about the day's activities across the country. As the night progressed and we began to get initial updates about sales, donations and auction items, we all realized what an impact we were going to make. The final totals are listed below:

As this was our first year organizing an event of this caliber, the outcome is encouraging. We could not have done this without the national support we received. Special thanks go out to the restaurants, volunteers and all of you who spread the word about this fundamental cause. We are eagerly looking into the future to plan our next fundraiser and hope you will continue to join us. THANK YOU!
Our Background
As many of you know, the Virginia Tech community experienced an indescribable tragedy on April 16, 2007. We are approaching the one-year mark of that date. Recently, Northern Illinois University (NIU) experienced a shooting tragedy on their campus. In response to Virginia Tech's tragedy, we have gathered a team of alumni from Virginia Tech and the Ohio State University (OSU) to remember the victims this year on April 16, 2008. Given the recent NIU tragedy, we are taking the opportunity to hold this fundraising event for the victims at NIU.
We are planning to hold an event to remember both tragedies and raise money for both memorial and scholarship funds created by the Universities. Up front, you must know that Virginia Tech has closed their "Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund"; a fund set-up for those killed and wounded on April 16th at Virginia Tech; however Virginia Tech still has the "Hokie Spirit Memorial Scholarship Fund" and individual victim funds for donations. Furthermore, neither Virginia Tech nor Ohio State officially endorse the event. In no way do we speak on behalf of either University, rather we are putting together a grassroots effort to raise funds and remember our friends and former professors killed and wounded on April 16th. The organization we have established will run through www.vtcoast2coast.com, but only as an informational source which will also provide direct links to multiple University-run charities. We are honored to link them into our bi-coastal awareness event.
